We went to a factory where old Japanese looms still exist.
Do you know ? Toyota, the world’s number one selling car manufacturer, started out making looms. Japan was the world’s largest exporter of cotton textiles during the devastating post-WW2 reconstruction period. It is little known to the rest of the world, that this is attributed to the development of Japanese machinery manufacturers today. And old looms that have been weave since that time are still in existence and in operation!
We took the “Shinkan-sen” from Tokyo to visit the factory in search of them !

Classic automobiles abound, but so do classic timepieces. The Concours d’Elegance is a phrase of French origin that translates to Competition of Elegance. This past weekend, that very concours, as well as the Tour d’Elegance, presented by Rolex, took place in beautiful California at Pebble Beach. It’s become something of a tradition for HODINKEE to have boots on the ground for this one. And boots we had. Boots admiring the killer cars, and boots wearing and spotting the myriad timepieces at the scene
